About The Federation

Poland has been a globally recognized producer of excellent goose and duck feathers for many years. As early as in the mid-1990s, there was an initiative to cooperate and exchange experience among the companies of the feather industry in Poland. The initiative resulted in the establishing the Federation of Polish Down and Feather Exporters in 1995, formed at that time by 8 founding companies.

Our organization affiliates leading Polish companies specialized in production, processing and trade of feathers and down. As of today the Federation has 13 members. The main goals of our association are to protect industry interests, popularize enhanced knowledge about our product and promote Polish down and feathers on international markets.

The Federation is actively involved in expert consultations and work related to updating legislation, establishing veterinary regulations, and interpreting industry & market requirements for down and feathers. In past years, the Federation has taken a position on such issues as animal welfare, ethical sourcing of feathers, and export requirements for Polish raw materials. The Federation also responds to inquiries from individual consumers who seek detailed information on down and feathers.

One of the main areas of our commitment is to ensure the traceability of Polish raw feathers and protect the brand of “Polish White Goose Down”. The Federation was the initiator to launch certification of origin program for Polish down and feathers, currently carried out by the National Poultry Council – Chamber of Commerce (KRD).

All members of the Federation hold relevant trade and veterinary licenses required for trading feathers and down both domestically and iternationally. Since its establishment, the Federation has been a member of the International Down and Feather Bureau, the largest feather industry organization in the world. We also belong to the National Poultry Council (KRD), the largest poultry organization in Poland.

Our industry

Feathers and down have been used in Poland for centuries for a variety of purposes – decorative, writing, for military plumes and many others. The cold climate fostered the use of feathers in comforters and pillows. As early as in the 17th century, Jan Chryzostom Pasek described in his chronicles that comforters at the royal court in Warsaw were filled with feathers. Sources from the eighteenth to nineteenth centuries mention the collection of valuable feathers for bedding in the Polish countryside, the first primitive feather-cleaning devices and craftsmen specializing in featherbed making.
